Bern High School Receives Governor's Achievement Award

The Kansas Board of Regents recently unveiled a new awards program - The Governor's Achievement Award for the top performing schools in the state. Bern High School was one of the schools honored.
USD 488 Superintendent Bob Bartkoski present the award to Bern principal Jim Struber and the high school Student Council officers between the varsity girls' and boys' games on Tuesday, March 6, 2007.
"This award is a reflection of our TEAM's efforts....our community expectations.... our students, staff and administration," said Bartkoski. "Remember, together we did....and together we will continue in the pursit of excellence."
Specifications for the program honors are as follows:
-The school must have achieved a standard of excellence in both reading and mathematics for 2006.
-The school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress in both reading and mathematics and one additional measure in 2006. (For elementary and middle/junior high schools, attendance, for high schools, graduation rate.)
-The school must have been among schools in the top five percent in both reading and mathematics on the 2006 state assessments at its respective level.
-Forty-four elementary schools, 12 middle schools, and 18 high schools qualified for this prestigious award.
