October BOE Minutes

The board met in regular session on October 8, 2007 at the district office in Axtell, KS.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Brian Deters. The agenda was approved.
Ken Kickhaefer gave the annual audit report to the board.
Administrative Reports:
Principals Bob Bartkoski, Patrick Graham and Jim Struber updated the board on school activities. Summerfield School is planning a Veteran’s Day program and is looking at getting new rock on the driveway. The Axtell School report included a note that the early release was successful; an update on St. Michael’s students attending the public school for computers, music and physical education; and a sports update. The Bern School report included that they are hosting the 1A volleyball regional and an update on the junior high and high school sports seasons.
Consent Agenda:
• The October claim vouchers were approved.
• Approved hiring Cindy Kaster as the Axtell Community Service Club sponsor at a salary of $864.00.
• Approved a contract for the annual audit with Kickhaefer and Associates for 2007-08 in the amount of $5725.00.
• Approved a request from the Axtell Jr. Class to have the Prom meal at a location in Seneca.
• Accepted a $500 donation from Rick Cain to be used for additions to the Axtell Vo-Ag program and to the weight room.
New Business:
• Approved the District Technology Plan with year one implemented in the 07-08 school year.
• Discussion was held regarding district field trips. No action was taken.
• Supt. Bartkoski gave a report to the board on correspondence received from KS Dept. of Health and Environment regarding new regulations on Head Lice and Chicken Pox. This was a discussion item only.
• Approved a request from the Bern Ag Mechanics class to build a storage unit shed for resale as a fundraiser.
Executive Session:
Executive sessions were held concerning personnel and student issues.
• The board approved hiring a regular ed para to work up to 40 hours per week at the Bern School.
• Approval was given to the Bern FCCLA to attend the Cluster Meeting in Minnesota. They will travel with the Sabetha FCCLA and all expenses will be paid by the FCCLA organization.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 p.m. The next regular meeting of the board will be on November 12, 2007, at the Bern School.
