Axtell School

Veteran's Day Presentation

by Chelsie Duryea

November 15, 2007

On November 14, 2007, Axtell High School Student Council put on a Veteran’s Day presentation for the veterans in the Axtell area.

The program started out with the presentation of the American and the Kansas flags by Martin (Leon) Volle and John Heiman.  They are members of the Axtell Boy Scouts. The audience recited the Pledge of Allegiance.  Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Mr. Rottinghaus welcomed everyone and introduced the veterans of the Axtell area who were in attendance. As Mr. Rottinghaus finished introducing the veterans, we listened to Walter Stumpf, the keynote speaker, and his presentation of “Showing Proper Respect for the Flag.”

When Mr. Stumpf ended his speech, the AHS choir sang four songs including: “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, “Freedom”, “God of Our Fathers”, and “The Star Spangled Banner.” For the closing of the assembly, Kass Heiman played “TAPS” on the trumpet.

Following the Veteran’s Presentation, the veterans and their wives, the students, and others who came to watch all congregated in the commons area for cake and ice-cream provided by AHS Student Council.  The Student Council baked the cakes

Thank You to everyone who made this presentation possible, we enjoyed it greatly!
