Railroad Safety

Wednesday, November 12, 2008 was the day when Axtell High School attended a demonstration about Railroad safety. The railroad is a dangerous place and it is also private property owned by the railroad company. The assembly students attended was very informational and interesting. They learned about what can happen if you aren't cautious of trains.
When approaching a railroad crossing, be cautious of the railroad bucks. If they are down, do not try to go around them. If there no bucks, be sure to stop and look both ways to be sure there is no train coming and then cross. If there is a train coming, do not try to out run it to get across the tracks. This is when most fatalities occur. A train weighs 12 million lbs. and if it is coming toward a 3000 lb car, you can guess what will happen, the car will get destroyed. If your vehicle stalls out on the tracks and there is a train coming, get out of the car and run in the direction of the train, but not at it. You run toward the train so no de brie will hit you as the de brie will be flying in the opposite direction.
