L.A. Night to Remember
by SueAnn Wanklyn
April 24, 2009
The juniors began decorating for the dinner at the high school Thursday (April 17) after school and then trekked down to the American Legion to begin decorating for the dance. After a slow start, the class got in the swing of things and decorations were going up. Friday was also spent at the Legion getting everything in place. By 3:30, the final touches were finished and we were ready for Prom.
The weather man did not give a very promising forecast for Saturday, April 18. This was the day of the Axtell Prom. The juniors were nervous as it was to be rainy and cloudy. Joel Ronnebaum assured us he wasn't going to let it rain, and low-and-behold, it did not. It was kind of cloudy that morning, but by noon the sun was shining and it was getting warmer. Saturday turned out to be a perfect day for the AHS Prom.
The theme was L.A. Nights. The "restaurant" was set with round tables for the students and were covered in silver table cloths. The color scheme, neon (pink, green, blue, yellow) hats, napkins, and cups dotted the silver tables and it all looked very festive. The juniors also chose hurricane glasses with the 'L.A. Night' theme and 'Axtell Prom, April 18, 2009' imprint. The meal was catered by Ricky's of Hanover and pretty sure no one went away hungry.

With the weather
cooperating, the Grand March was held on the lawn south of the
school. Click

Axtell Juniors at Prom 09 After the introductions
(announced by Mr. Rottinghaus) were complete, the students and some
spectators headed for the Legion to get a glance of what the night
had to hold. After the students passed the breathalyzer
(standard procedure), the dance began.
The hit of the night, hands down, was the slushi bar. Popcorn and M & M's served as snacks for the night also. Pretty sure fun was had by all and Mr. & Mrs. Vieselmeyer and Mr. Rottinghaus & Ms. Ottersberg even got in on a dance or two.

I would like to thank everyone who helped make Prom a success. It could not have happened without the help and support of everyone involved.
A special - THANK YOU - to the Juniors for accommodating me since I was unable to physically do a lot of the things needed.
