A Year in Review

I would like to thank all the students in WebDesign this year for their work and dedication to getting everything onto the USD 488 WebPage. It was a team effort and much appreciated. Although you sighed each time we worked on HTML, I know deep down you enjoyed it. Have a great summer!
The WebDesign students each have a short article wrapping up their 2008-09 year. Please read and enjoy.

My year in web design was pretty AMAZING. I learned a lot of new stuff I wouldn’t have known until I took this class. I learned how to write some HTML and put stuff onto the website. We also put programs together for any sports event we had at our school and we also put one together for choir concerts and for graduation. The graduation program was, by far, the most complicated but in the end, it turned out looking good. WedDesign can teach you a lot of stuff about how to make your own website and it can help you guide your way through the website.
The rest of my year in my other classes and school in general was pretty good. The classes were pretty easy and I got along with pretty much everyone this year; yeah, people have their ups and downs and argue but they get over it and go on. Over all, this year I think, my class has got along a lot better then what we did last year. We talk more to each other and actually act like we are a class. I think the reason why we didn’t last year was because it was out first year in high school and everyone was scared. People say classes get harder as the years go on but they didn’t seem much harder, but in general they were but they didn’t seem like it.
This year in volleyball we did better then last year but we still couldn’t pull it through to get us many wins. Basketball was a lot better this year then what it was last year; this year it seemed like we got along better as a team then what we did last year. We made it to second round in Regional’s and lost to Centralia by 7 points. That is the second closest we have been to Centralia and 6 points was our closest game. We will miss our two seniors that are leaving us but they will go on and do great things.
So over all this year has probably been a good year for everyone I think and our school also seemed to be getting better as the year went on. The reason why that may be is because we have a great principal, Mr. Rottinghaus. Now I will have to see what next year has in store for me and the school. Have a GREAT Summer!!!

To start the year off in WebDesign, I created a program for the Axtell/B&B football game and wrote the articles for each football game. After that I did a couple of BVTV slideshows and we also did HTML’s a lot of the days. At the end of the year I started working on the highlight reel for football.
I woke up every morning and went through another day of school. This year has gone by fast and I wouldn’t change too much if I could. Math seemed to be my hardest class this year, but still managed to pull A’s 3 of the 4 quarters. Biology would have to be my second hardest class, but it was also kind of fun because we got to dissect some small animals.
Half of what makes school worth while is you have sports to go with it. Football started out slow but came on strong in the end as we ended as Sub-State Runner Up. It was a lot of fun getting to play with my older brother who just graduated Sunday. In Basketball, we were really young and just couldn’t get over the hump. Track isn’t going so well for me; I mainly went out just to stay in shape.

This year in Web Design we have all had a lot of fun. We started out the year making volleyball and football programs for both the junior high and high school home games. Once we got done with volleyball and football we started basketball programs. Once basketball was over we were done making sports program. We also got the chance to make the programs for concerts at both Axtell and Summerfield. Our class created slideshows for BVTV Channel 3. They were very fun to make and to watch. This year I was one of the lucky people that got to help make the last ABS (Axtell, Bern Summerfield) report. The BOE decided that we would not be sending the report out as often due to budget cuts. We also had the pleasure of working with “HTML” and how to write code. This was a project that got a little frustrating at times. Once we got a handle on it, it was kind of fun.
As you can tell, WebDesign was fun, but the whole year was even more fun. Volleyball this year was very fun. We got the chance to watch the football team make it to sub-state. Even though we did not go to State, it was very fun to see the guys make it this far. This year in basketball we had shirts made for anyone that wanted to buy one to support the Eagles. I would have to say that everyone did a good job and had fun supporting our team.
This year I also got the pleasure to help serve prom. The prom theme this year was 'LA Nights'. This year at prom I had fun serving water and lemonade at the dinner. Then, we went to the dance and served slushies and M&M’s and popcorn.
Now that this year is almost over we have started talking about becoming juniors. We are all going to miss the seniors. We all are also, going to have fun over the summer and be ready to come back next year older than what we when we left.

The end of the 2008-2009 school year is this week, the whole year was fun and adventurous. The WebDesign class was interesting with Mrs. Wanklyn as the teacher and the students to help each other through the hard assignments we had. This year was cool; I learned something I can use in life and some I can’t, but for the most part this year at Axtell High was the best.
The Axtell Eagles football team made it to the sub-state playoff game, the Boys Basketball team was fighting to get to the sub-state playoff game, and the Axtell Track team has some athletes fighting to go to state. The sports program is very progressive and fundamentally prepared.
Probably the worst part of the year was when we sophomores had to take the state assessments and a couple of people have to retake them, but otherwise the year was good. Now the end of the school year is here and summer is starting. The students at Axtell High are getting anxious and sad because the school year is ending in a few days.
The 2008-2009 school year was successful and was filled with hard work.

This past year has been very interesting. We have had many accomplishments and made many memories. Throughout the year in Web-Design we have all been busy working on all sorts of different projects. We created all the programs for the different activities going on. We were also introduced to HTML, where each of us created an “About Me” HTML file site. We learned a lot about each other through those files. We learned about each other's hobbies and future plans. It was good to learn all these things about each other because it made us grow closer as friends.
WebDesign class wasn’t just the only way we all grew closer this year. Most of us were also involved in many different extracurricular activities. The guys really bonded when they made it to Sub-State in football. Even though we girls didn’t make it quite as far in volleyball, we still enjoyed every minute of it. I don’t think I’ll ever forget how we ate grapes and canned cheese on game nights.
Prom this year was also a highlight of the year. The class attended the L.A. Nights celebration. Throughout the night we all danced and sang along to our favorite songs. It was so much fun.
The Junior/Senior play was also a lot of fun. We were all dressed up and it was quite hilarious. The crowd seemed to enjoy it, which only made it all the more fun. I can’t wait until next years play.
So as you can see, we have all made countless memories this year. It has been a blast and I’m sorry to see the year come to an end. I hope next year is just as much fun and brings forth just as many memories.

WebDesign this year was pretty fun. We got to learn how to design a web page from scratch using notepad and writing HTML. The basic lessons were pretty easy, but as the lessons progressed, the difficulty increased. Even though it was kind of difficult, it was fun. We also were able to design programs for home games which turned out to be pretty fun.
The overall school year turned out to be very interesting. It first began back in football season when I was able to play varsity. There’s a big difference between the skill levels of junior varsity and varsity. We ended up making it to sub-state, which was a blast. Then basketball season started. It was a bummer that I had to sit out the entire season due to an injury in football. We later had our class fundraiser, which was a fish fry. The fish fry turned out to be a big success. By this time track had started, but I decided not to go out. Instead I spent the time after school at a job. The overall school year turned out to be a lot of fun.

My junior year at Axtell was one I will never forget. As a junior, I had lots of fun classes, attended a lot of fun activities, and witnessed some awesome games. I had a blast at Prom, and I cried to see the senior class go. Over all, it’s safe to say that McKenna Ann Jones had a great junior year.
One of the classes that I attended all year was WebDesign. WebDesign enabled me to let my creative side roll out of me and appear on paper for sports programs, web articles, and a lot more. I wouldn’t describe the whole year in Web Design like rainbows and butterflies, just because I really didn’t like to do all the HTML packets that were handed to us nearly daily for a couple weeks, but I did enjoy making all the programs for all the different events. Web Design has improved my computer skills to be even better than what they were at the beginning of the year.
Some of my favorite memories this year were made at activities such as volleyball games and practices, rides in the suburban to all the football and basketball games, PROM, Winter Formal, Homecoming Dance, the Play, and of course, there was never a dull moment in everyday school life with the wonderful class of 2010. As you can see, I had oodles of memories from all these places. Prom was an awesome experience because this year we got to decorate. The theme was L.A. Night and we transformed the Legion in to a hoppin’ L.A. night club look-a-like! We had everything from glow sticks, a slushy bar, and an awesome DJ.
Over all, my junior year was very memorable and very AWESOME!

My sophomore year in high school was full of ups and downs. The year included lots of fun times on weekends and at school. Our year was also a success in sports, which included our football guys making it to Sub-State and basketball girls making it to second round of regional’s for the first time in many years.
I think I’ll start off with my year in WebDesign class. In this class I learned many things with many of them being very useful. Throughout the year we did some fun assignments and some not so fun ones. Some of the fun stuff we did was make our own web page, take a field trip to the Blue Valley Tele-Communication building, and making a slide show of ourselves using Windows Movie Maker. The not-so-fun stuff was doing HTML packets, which was learning code for making an Internet website.
In school this year my classes included Spanish I, WebDesign, Algebra II, English II, Biology, Nutrition & Wellness, and Communications. Probably the best thing we did so far that was fun was dissecting in Biology and the worst had to be getting ready for all the State Assessments.
For sports I participated in Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, and Track. It was exhausting and I am glad that summer is almost here just to get a break from all of it. But I guess if you think about it, we don’t really get a big break because we have NEK Basketball on Tuesday nights and Volleyball practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hopefully it’s not too bad.
Overall the year was a blast and I’m hoping that this coming year is just as fun.

As the year ends, I decided an article would best describe what has happened in the year of 2008-2009.
This year, I am a junior in high school. The year started off great, getting right into volleyball season. Although the scores didn’t show it, we improved greatly and came a long way. We had two great coaches, Coach Pam Buessing and Assistant Coach Rose Kuckelman. We would have been nowhere without them. Here in WebDesign, we were busy making football and volleyball programs and doing our favorite thing - HTML.
Then, it was basketball time with Coach Jayson Tynon and Assistant Coach Rachel Ronnebaum. As opposed to last year, we had over double the amount of wins. This is the time for Christmas cards to be sent out. The WebDesign class took some lovely pictures to put on the USD 488 Website. We also visited Blue Valley Telecommunications and talked to Rachel Ronnebaum about what she does on Channel 3 for BVTV.
When spring rolled around, it was time for track season. In WebDesign, we didn’t have any programs to do, so it was back to the HTML for us. Thank goodness for those, or we would be bored out of our minds.
The best thing to do now is describe what HTML teaches us. It actually is a very good program to look into if you want to design a web page because it’s a step-by-step progression that shows you how to insert tables, charts, columns, bullets…I could go on forever on everything that you learn from HTML.
The saddest part of the school year would have to be graduation. In just a year, that will be my class, and I just don’t think I can handle saying good-bye to all of my good friends.
Basically though, 2008-2009 was a successful year.

My year in WebDesign had been quite the experience. I hated the HTML papers we did but eventually I got over the agony. The WebDesign class did some cool projects this year and I learned how to do things using software I have never used before. I was happy taking this class because, for the most part, I enjoyed it and doing things that I don’t normally do.
I am going to be a junior in 2009-2010 and all I am thinking about now is ~ I can not wait until I graduate ~, but until then, I am stuck here. But that’s ok because Axtell School is a great school in my opinion; the best school I have been at. I have a lot of fun here; even in the morning when I’m dead tired. The teachers here are pretty cool and very helpful and every year at the end of the summer I start looking forward to coming back and seeing some people. The only thing I never look forward to is getting up at that stupid beeping of my alarm clock. Me and that thing get off to the wrong start every single morning.
This year I did not do all the sports. The only sports I played was football and track because I do not like basketball. One thing I always look forward to is playing football for this school, making it to Sub-state has motivated me to getme ready for my junior year.

Throughout this year WebDesign has had its ups and downs, there were the good times and bad. Designing and making the sports programs was all fine and dandy but HTML, that’s another story. Yes, I did learn a lot throughout the HTML packets but it is really difficult to make your own Website especially when your computer is not being very cooperative. But we all worked through it and in the end it turned out just fine. But every time Mrs. Wanklyn said “HTML!” she heard a loud sign from the class because everybody knew it would be a long process and take a lot of time to make it turn out right.
The sports season this school year has been a lot like the class also, there were good times and bad. The boys made it to sub-state in football but just couldn’t pull out with a win and during basketball season, the girls improved from last year but just couldn’t come out on top. Track isn’t over yet, but hopefully with a little hard work, we can get a few competitors who will make it to state!
Throughout this year at Axtell High School the goal has been to save money on electricity. So, to help meet this goal, the school replaced some light bulbs, turned off lights more, and tried to keep computers shut off as much as possible; there was also a reward in play. If the student body kept the electricity usage under what was used last year we would get out of school a day extra before Christmas Break. With a little determination and hard work, everybody worked together to achieve the goal!
This year has been full of fun memories that I will never forget between sports, seeing the cadaver, and setting up for prom. I had a great Junior year and hope my Senior year is just as good, just hopefully it doesn’t fly by so fast. But I’m not so sure that’ll happen.

The new meat; the person who everyone just stares at trying to figure out if they’re normal or if they moved to a new place because their undercover secret identity of being a complete and foreign alien was discovered. Okay, so maybe that’s not what they thought when I first came here, but boy did I feel like it was going to be tough to fit in and settle down in my new town. Fortunately, I was mistaken; it was surprisingly easy to make friends here. (Way to be friendly Axtell!) Anyways, as I was making friends, sharing laughs, and creating inside jokes, my junior year progressed into the dreaded Algebra homework, and exhaustion of extracurricular activities. I did get some extra math practice though, through the concession stands and possibly discovered my inner chefness…(so maybe I just made that word up, but it’s was true with all that time spent in the concession stand this year I ate my fair share of sloppy nachos!)
New schools bring new teams. It was kind of hard for me to start to cheer for the Axtell Eagles; but somehow I ended up still loosing my voice a time or two during football season. I believe it helped a lot that I actually had a sibling to cheer for, never have I been in a school where I was related to anyone; it’s a nice change. Never the less, "Congratulations boys, you did great this year!" I do have to admit something though, I regret not doing volleyball this fall. I came here with the attitude that I was “done” with sports. Well, golly gosh, I can’t even begin to describe how tough it was for me to just sit in the gym and watch our girls play and me not able to just jump up from the bleachers and dig our opponents oncoming spike. I lived though and as time passed by, a season of basketball arose. My nerves were bouncing from every which direction, and I honestly felt like I was holding a butterfly farm in my stomach. So many fluttering around!
This basketball season I believe I got closer to the girls. Bonded and created friendships that have carried over after basketball season. It was almost like a completely different sport for me though. The season was more relaxed, laid back and I felt like I was playing more for fun instead of competing for win after win after win. I enjoyed it; but I can assure you next year, we’re going to kick some hiney! Aside from the sports, we had other special things that happened that I remember distinctively; such as homecoming, winter formal, the play, and of course prom. Time, effort, and a lot of cooperation were put into these events, with the football game right before homecoming, and having one of our very own students being our DJ at winter formal. Late night practices for “The Visitors”, and even some scares of tornadoes. Decorating prom was definitely a job, but going to it and After-prom was definitely worth the stress. I’ve enjoyed my year here at Axtell, and I plan on enjoying another 244 days here.
