August 12, 2009
The board met in regular session on August 10, 2009 at the district office in Axtell, KS.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Brian Deters. The agenda was approved.
A budget hearing was held to review the 2009-10 budget. The budget was approved.
Comments of Visitors:
Administrative Reports:
Supt. Bartkoski updated the board on the lighting project progress, enrollment update, Power School update and the Back to School Inservice.
Principal Rick Schnacker gave a report covering the air conditioning check at the Bern School and the summer facility projects.
Principal Brian Rottinghaus reported that the fall sports meeting is scheduled; enrollment is complete and the building is ready for the beginning of school.
Principal Bob Bartkoski shared that the building is ready to school to begin and the pre-school night has been scheduled.
Consent Agenda:
- A request for non-resident attendance was approved for Chad Reynolds children to attend the Bern School.
- The August warrants were approved.
- The July Board of Education minutes were approved.
- A Resignation was accepted from Maranda Bowen, Bern School para.
- Approval was given to hire:
Danielle Forgy – head cook at Bern School
Darla Dedic – food service worker at Bern School
Jill Bachtold – Bern para
Barbara Farwell – Bern Migrant para
Robert Creese as Bern Grounds keeper at 10 hours per week
Jerry Leuthold was approved as an assistant track coach at Bern
Yvonne Krehbiel – junior high volleyball coach at Bern
Old Business:
- All classified salaries were frozen at the present level for the 09-10 school year.
- The Bern weight room hours were approved. The weight room will be closed once the last coach leaves the building after practices.
New Business:
- Superintendent Bartkoski presented information to the board on possible restructuring options. Item discussed were Cooperative programs; Contracted services; 4 Day week; Consolidation and ways to maintain as long as possible with the status quo. Special public meetings are scheduled for August 26 at Axtell; August 27 at Bern and August 31 at Summerfield.
Executive Session:
Executive sessions were held concerning matters of non-elected personnel and student issues.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 p.m. The next regular meeting of the board will be on September 14, 2009 at the District Office.
