March '10 BOE Minutes
March 11, 2010
The board met in regular session on March 8, 2010 at the Axtell Gym in Axtell, Kansas.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Brian Deters. The agenda was approved.
Administrative Reports:
Supt. Bartkoski gave an update on the Fire Marshal report; the status of state aid payments and snow make up day procedures.
Principal Brian Rottinghaus gave a report on the basketball season for JH and HS; FFA contest results; Scholars Bowl results; TVL Music contest results and the student numbers for track.
Principal Rick Schnacker sent a report on the state assessment testing kick-off; gave a basketball wrap up; shared numbers participating in track; scholars bowl results and band and chorus activities. Principal Bob Bartkoski gave a report on the Shrine Circus the 3rd & 4th grade students attended and that state assessments are in progress.
Consent Agenda:
- The March warrants were approved.
- The Board of Education minutes were approved.
Old Business:
The board reviewed the latest financial update from Topeka as it pertains to school districts. Supt. Bartkoski was authorized to set up further meetings between USD 488 and USD 451 and a 3 on 3 meeting with USD 488 and USD 441 boards. Bartkoski reminded everyone that March 22, 2010 is the deadline for getting a consolidation plan to the State Board for approval. This deadline must be met to insure that a consolidation agreement could be voted on in this fiscal year locking in the current year funding for the 10-11 school year.
Executive Session:
- Executive sessions were held concerning matters of negotiations; non-elected personnel and student issues.
The board toured the Axtell School.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:16 p.m. The next regular meeting of the board will be on April 12, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Axtell.
