Think Twice About Tobacco

by Cindy Kaster

November 10, 2009

On October 19th, Axtell High School National Honor Society members held an anti-smoking assembly for their fellow students. Students watched an anti-smoking presentation given by Patrick Reynolds titled "The Truth about Tobacco" on DVD. Patrick Reynolds, a well known anti-smoking advocate, is the grandson of cigarette company founder RJ Reynolds.

After watching his father and other family members die from cigarette related deaths, Mr. Reynolds decided to speak out against the tobacco industry. During his presentation, Patrick Reynolds informed us about the lengths the tobacco companies will go in order to get our youth to start smoking. The cigarette companies target our youth so they are able to replace the 54 million costumers that die each year from tobacco related deaths. Hopefully, after watching this program, all of the students at AHS will think twice about using tobacco products.

The DVD was purchased using grant money NHS students received from the Tobacco Free Kansas Coalition.
